A spring's restoring force is proportional to its displacement from equilibrium (Hooke's Law), producing simple harmonic motion.
Overview
Hooke's Law: F = -kx, where k is the spring constant and the negative sign shows the force always points back toward equilibrium. Period of a mass-spring system: T = 2π√(m/k) — independent of amplitude.
